A Union of Black Artists Society program in partnership with Charles Taylor Theatre & Media Arts, Nova Scotia College and Art & Design, Afromations Media & Community Media Lab.
After a successfully executed pilot project in the spring of 2021, the “Black Above the Line” technical training program introduces participants to the filmmaking process, with a focus on production. Participants will learn both the theory and practice of using and operating the equipment used by film professionals during each stage of filmmaking, or one of the other departments available.
By completion, participants will not only understand how a film is made, they will also learn how to work together as a team to complete a film and capture the director’s vision on film, by way of comprehensive technical training.
The program lengths vary between each program, followed by hands-on content creation. The content created by participants will then be showcased publically in the 2025 Emerging Lens Film Festival.
